About

Welcome!
Welcome to Desert Jewel Music Studios, providing voice lessons and piano lessons in Menifee, CA. As a classical voice and piano teacher with 25 years of performance and teaching experience, I take joy in providing professional, creative, quality lessons to students of all ages.

What makes Desert Jewel Music Studios unique?
My lessons are designed to be exciting, interactive, and professional, aiming to develop not just musicians but creative artists and effective communicators. It is my belief that music, as a universal language, teaches life-long lessons that transcend culture and time, impacting many areas of life.

In either singing or playing, the whole body is involved in making music. As you grow in understanding the emotions expressed in music, the analytical requirements and physical motor skills associated with producing those tones, your hands and voice will find ways of expressing more articulately. Because of this, my voice and piano lessons provide a holistic approach to music, which integrates artistry, ear training, sight-reading, theory, technique, improvisation and composition. This way, whether you’re a visual, kinesthetic, or auditory learner, you will naturally develop through your own learning style while you grow in other areas. You or your child will receive individual attention tailored to your needs and goals.

Personal
Heidi-Jeanne has a gift and love for teaching, passing on her passion for music to her students in a way that motivates them, whether young or old, and tailoring their lessons to meet their needs and goals. Heidi-Jeanne has taught private voice and piano lessons for 25 years to both children and adults. She is an active member of the Music Teachers’ Association of California (MTAC), Temecula Valley Branch. Within MTAC, She has helped students pass levels Prep through Level 9 in Certificate of Merit™ and her students actively participate in many of their recitals, fundraisers, and festivals. She has also had students perform with the Southern California Choral Artists, and as leads in Lifehouse Theater. Heidi-Jeanne delights in being a homeschooling mom of two very active boys. She is a devoted wife and is actively involved in the music ministry of Grace Bible Church of MurrietaHer church is her reason for moving to California over a decade ago!

Education
She holds Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees in Music Performance, which included extensive studies in both vocal pedagogy and piano pedagogy. She has studied with pianists such as Joan Hopper of Ohio Wesleyan University, Andrea Steffan at music conservatory of Capital University (where she studied for several years), learning advanced techniques for playing large pieces with small hands and Dr. Laura Beauchamp, discovering advanced pedaling techniques. She has also studied piano and taken composition classes with renowned composer Dan Forrest.

Under the tutelage of Carol Marty, long-time friend and mentor, she learned the joy of connecting with people and lifting the human spirit through song. She has also studied private voice for two years with Lynn Roseberry at Capital University, and at Bob Jones University for six years with international opera and oratorio artist Jean Reese Greer. Continuing education workshops with pedagogues like David L. Jones and Joy Puckett Schreier have also enriched her teaching approach. She is also thankful for growing up in the home of her mother, a piano and voice teacher, Patricia Hartman of Columbus, Ohio, where the rhythm of running a music studio was a constant source of delight and activity.

Professional Experience
As a dramatic coloratura soprano, her stage experience includes opera roles such as Margherita in Boito’s Mefistofele, Sophie in Terrence McNally’s play Master Class and guest soloist in Jauchzet Gott with the Bob Jones University Chamber Strings. Throughout her college years she was an active participant in multiple choral organizations including a chorus member in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor. She is also a member of The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP). She has been a soloist with the California Chamber Orchestra and performed often the MERC. She has performed as both a chorus member and soloist with the Temecula Valley Symphony Chorus. And she currently performs as both a soloist and chorus member in the Southern California Choral Artists (SCCA). She has performed a lecture recital of Strauss’s Vier Letzte Lieder, collaborating with pianist Laura Jean Chandler. She has also performed in children’s features such as Snoopy and Pride and Prejudice. In addition to her performance experience, she has taught collegiate private voice lessons and classes at Bob Jones University. She is actively involved in the music ministry of Grace Bible Church of Murrieta

With this diverse performance experience, combined with her years as a church musician, Heidi-Jeanne brings a well-rounded perspective to teaching voice and piano lessons, knowing the rigors of the concert path, the skill of regular church music ministry, and the carefree fun of children’s venues. This equips her to prepare serious students for the concert hall and allows her to teach children in a way that protects and grows their voice and hands naturally while exploring the excitement of music.

God will come and save you. Then the tongue of the mute will sing for joy. For waters will break forth in the wilderness, and streams in the desert.
From Isaiah 35
